Most of its body is bright yellow with the thick black stripe from the mouth edge to the occiput. Some parts of the wing and the tail are black. The mouth is sharp and strong with orange color. The female does not have the same bright yellow color as the male but it will have greenish yellow color. The young bird has the black stripe around the stomach.
Can be found in East Asia, India, Andaman Islands, Nicobar Islands, China, Hainan, Taiwan, Sunda Islands, Sulavesi, and Southeast Asia. In Thailand, it can be found all over the country because it migrates during the off-breeding season.
The Black-naped Oriole eats insect, ripped fruit, and nectar especially Erythrina subumbrans and pussy willow.
Lives in tropical rain forest, dry evergreen forest, hill evergreen forest, mixed deciduous forest, mangrove forest, orchard, and groove wood from the plain level to the height of 1,500 meters from the sea level. It stays alone or in pairs. It clings on the tree and flies up and down.There is no report of the nest building of this bird in Thailand.
