It is short legs and strong. Feathers covering the body are similar to hair but unlike typical feathers which help protect a thorn of bush. Besides it is a tailless bird, hairless on its head and neck, and has very small wings and apparent and prominent bone on its head. It has red, blue, purple and yellow skin, and legs with three toes, different from an ostrich that has two toes. Both sexes have the same characteristics with the black feathers covering the body, but the female is a little bit larger than the male.

In the breeding season, Cassowary will build the nest on the ground, digging a shallow hole and covering with leaves. It lays 3 to 6 eggs each clutch and eggs has dark green color. The male will incubate the eggs which will take approximately 49 to 56 days. The chick has a long-stripe body and the parent of the chick will help each other raising the chick.
Is a large flightless bird with the height of approximately 100 centimeters, the weight of approximately 85 kilograms.
